Esports in college

May 3, 2018 in Writing

Finally, gaming can be a gateway for children to earn college scholarships and even make a career from professional gaming. In today’s day and age, “There are more than thirty U.S. colleges and universities that offer scholarships for gamers…students can earn up to $19,000 a year in gaming scholarships” (Lawrence 6). Esports and Egaming is an up and coming college program which can be used to help those who cannot afford the whole price of tuition to a given college or university. These scholarships can give more options to those who may of not been able to go to college otherwise.  College scholarships for gaming also rewards those who dedicate a lot of their time into gaming instead of playing traditional sports such as baseball or football. Collegiate gaming can become a platform for many to gain exposure to professional gaming which is also an up and coming field. Professional gamer Tyler Blevins earns more than $100,000 a month playing Fortnite (Wu 1). He got his exposure to professional gaming while playing on the esports team at the University of Utah. Blevins is just one example of how collegiate gaming was able to give someone a financially rewarding career.
