The article by Lamott’s, “Shitty First Drafts” discusses how the first draft should be purely getting ideas on the paper. The most difficult part of writing a paper is coming up with ideas, whether its for an essay or just a blog the first sentences are the most difficult. The point that Lamott makes is that a first draft should not be concerned with complex sentence structure this helps to place ideas on paper and allow for a larger development of ideas. This will help me in my writing because I always get hung up on spelling, grammar and diction which causes me to forget about my ideas on the subject. This causes my arguments to suffer. Utilizing the principle that Lamott described my first draft will be focused on development of ideas. Drafts further on will focus on grammar and how to organize my essay to better convey an idea.
