After reading Lamott’ s ‘Shitty First Drafts’ I do agree with the fact that first drafts are indeed a bit shitty. Mainly because of the fact that there a lot of ideas that we wish to express in a very short span. As a person who wants to be a novelist one day I too find it a bit hard to express my ideas in a regular fashion. At times I have the story about what is going to happen later on in the book but I get puzzled as to what has to be written in between before that part inorder to maintain sequentiality and tend to stray away from the topic. Even with Essays its the same case where I end up writing way too much and later condensing it down to what is required.

Another reading this week that caught my eye was Carillo’s reading strategies. I really had no idea that there were more reading strategies besides skimming and mapping. The strategies such as rhetoric reading and says does was really different. The says does strategy really helped me a lot as it helped me summarize my reading assignments of various other classes and it also enabled me to remember the content much more efficiently. The Rhetoric approach of reading has definitely helped me a lot especially with the profile essay.

This week was surely filled with a lot of interesting topics to read and gain insight on.
