  • It’s funny because for all my other blogs I talk about my problems but let’s talk about the positives and what makes me happy. I love when people touch my hair. It’s the best feeling ever. I be falling asleep. I […]

    • This was a very positive blog (although there are still moments tinged with sadness, like your comments about your sister and your parents). I hope that, in the past few weeks, you’ve been able to enjoy some of the things that makes you happy.

    • Awwe you are so cute.😌 I like how I got to learn more about you while you were listing the things that make you happy and that you love. Sometimes in life we just have to look at the good things occurring in life and that makes us happy because if not we will always find life to suck and to be depressing lol. By the way I love your hair is so soft. I can relate Karen I am also learning to love myself and body I mean slowly bur I’m getting there lol.

    • One of my favorite line throughout your blog is “I could finally learn to love myself and my body.” This stand out to me because it amazes me that a young lady as yourself could stay positive about herself. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with what you have said, but I am saying is that you are incredibly brave for loving yourself in spite of what social media would tell us. Love yourself and love your body. You rock!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love October. I get to wear comfy sweaters and sweatpants. Oh and omg halloween is right around the corner. I’ve always wanted to go trick or treating, but my neighborhood has always been dangerous. There’s no […]

  • It’s week 5 I think. I sort of got my life together now. I’m starting to actually like the campus. Not the food though but still. They need to fix that. Why do we have to pay so much for the same meals eve […]

    • Organization is definitely key for college success. You have so many different deadlines and responsibilities; it can be really hard to keep track of all of them. Sounds like you have some very admirable goals, focused on helping though around you. Organization (and getting up early) are definitely going to be important in meeting them.

  • So basically it’s week 3 and I’m still a mess. I haven’t been going to some classes because I’ve been waking up very late. I’m so mad at myself. I could go to sleep early and still wake up so late. I don’t und […]

    • I definitely understand, where you’re coming from when it comes to waking up early. I am not an early person but I am getting the hang of it. I think you could do it, don’t give up hope. And you better stay in Stony Brook. You know I will miss you if you were gone. I know its hard but I am here for you if you need anything. You know where I’m at. LOL!! dont leave, please don’t leave. Whose going to make me laugh and help me enjoy the semester? I applause your mom for raising an amazing but crazy person, all by herself . Don;t stress yourself about this. You can do anything once you put your mind to it.

Hey, my name is Karen. To be more specific it’s Karen Cadavid. I don’t like my last name at all so if you want to add me on Facebook it’s Karen Rodriguez. Let’s not talk about Facebook though let’s talk […]

    • It is crazy how integrated into our lives technology can become. I did not have a smartphone until this year, and it is amazing how much it has become integrated into my life and daily routine. There is certainly a fundamental irony implicit in the stereotypes associated with race (really since they began during the age of colonialism). People of color were seen as savage, but the ways in which the white colonizers treated the people they colonized (rape, slavery, genocide, etc) truly was barbaric.

    • I love how you put your thoughts down no matter what people are going to think of it back. You are so nice Karen and you have a great personality and sense of humor. I never get tired of telling you how much I like hearing you speak with that Dominican accent flow, I just love it, reminds me of home. Going back to your post lol, it really bothers me too when people are so mean to each other and aren’t respectful; people should treat others like they would like to be treated. And about the phones during the five weeks don’t even remind me lol it was hard at first but I feel like we learn a valuable lesson and got to make great friends.

    • Lol awe thanks and same I feel like I was born in the wrong era too.
